Barrels of Laughs

This clip should provide some insights into the laughs, bragging rights and enthusiasm that could accompany a lesson with Mike Austin.
It also reveals the level of precision hitting that Mike Austin imbued upon his students.
Enjoy!

  1. The arms go along for the ride with the upper body (lead arm is against the pec/chest).
The pivot (ankles, knees and hip) act and the upper body responds.
The left knee first bends on back swing (toward the ball). On downswing, your right knee bends toward ball, but then continues in a circular motion until it points way left of the flag. Hope that helps.

  2. Welcome!
On the backswing the left heel raises and the knee bends toward the ball. On the downswing the left heel lowers and the right heel raises and that knee bends towards the ball.
But it doesn’t stop there. Keep the whole right side turning from the ground up. At the end, your right knee will point out to the left of the flag. Your right (back) shoulder will be in front of your left.

As to your arms and legs, the leg action happens as described above. At the same time you start to straighten your right arm.
    Hope that helps.
    Best,

  3. Great blog, I’m from Germany and currently learning the Mike Austin swing – but have noticed discrepancies. My coach says that the arms start the downswing, or all together. What he means is, the momentum for the weight shift can also be done on the arms.

In your video, he lifts at the start of the downswing the right heel. In the backswing the left knee towards the ball and in the downswing your right knee to the target???

Many who teach according to Mike, tell completely different things. Since you’re absolutely right

  5. Hi Chuck,

these little clips are so amazing and motivating. Michael was really a genious and you a phenomenal ballstriker. I wish, you could share more of his knowledge with us, but unfortunately it comes in very small pieces and very rarely.
It would be very nice, if you could update your website more frequently or give access to your videos? Is anything planned?

    Chris (Germany)
